Appleton Font – Going back to 1880-1900, when a series of events combined, the country was evolving from a local market economy to mass commercialization, railroad systems were being built, and color lithography was becoming more accessible. The first wagons full of oranges were being shipped from Southern California eastward—what a delight on a cold winter’s day.

Labels were pasted onto all the fruit crates, with large images of oranges and orange groves. With technological advances in welded cans, canning factories sprang up across the country. To market their products, many California canning factories pooled their resources to form the California Fruit Canners Assn. in 1899. This typeface was inspired by that era. It is full of alternations, swashes, stylistic support, and multilingualism.
